Australia is the lucky country - so put yourself in the shoes of someone who is not feeling lucky and imagine what it might be like to feel the shame, indignity, despair and trauma of being unlucky in the lucky country. In rural and regional areas, unlucky people: people in despair, people suffering the effects of trauma, people battered by stigma, shame and the effects of mental ill health need your help.
What does The Gatepost do?
We work with people in rural therapeutic settings to help cultivate the crucial conditions necessary to enable healthy relationships and connections with self and others.
We understand that trauma and difficulties in life leave a deep-rooted imprint upon the mind, brain and body and that the transformation of trauma requires whole body involvement.
We spend time with people individually and in groups and in relationship with horses to help people inhabit their bodies; learn about themselves, their relationships, and the patterns they may have that no longer serve them. This is the work of cultivating the crucial conditions for moving in to healthy preferred connections with self and community.
We fight the stigma attached to not being okay in this lucky country. We show that when the conditions are right, healing can occur, change is possible and connections happen.
